Brisket Recipe Pioneer Woman Style could not be easier.  It does take some time, however. If you start it around noon, it should be ready for dinner. While other brisket recipes call for a bbq pit and a lot of smoking, this one is done completely in the oven as a “set it and forget it” method. The Pioneer Woman calls for a bit more ketchup in her recipe, but we will go over that in a minute.

Brisket Sandwich


To start, I have altered the Pioneer Woman’s Original Recipe for Tangy Brisket. Hers (of course) is amazing left on it’s own, but we changed it up just a bit to make it a little more spicy, and with a little bbq zip to it. You can really experiment with your brisket recipe. If you want it more spicy, add more jalapeños. To make it sweeter, add more ketchup. The smokiness of your brisket can also be added with liquid smoke.

Brisket Recipe Pioneer Woman Style


5-8 lb brisket
1 cup of water
1 packet of Lipton Onion Soup Mix
4 oz ketchup
2 Tbsps hot sauce (Tabasco or Louisiana Hot Sauce or your choice)
About 10 dashes of Worcestershire sauce
1 Tbsp of your favorite bbq sauce
2-3 tsp of black pepper
Optional to add 1 whole onion cut up and 3-4 pepperonis in the last 2 hours of cooking

Preheat oven to 275. Put brisket in a baking or roasting dish. Take all other ingredients and whisk them up in a medium sized bowl. Pour ingredients over brisket front and back to coat. Cover entire thing snug as a bug with foil. Tuck edges of foil to pan to create a good seal. Cook for 6- 7 hours or until tender, turning brisket once or twice during process.

Let brisket cool just enough to handle. Take 2 forks and shred it apart. Either cut it up in small, bite size portions, or pulse in a food processor 2-3 times. Put brisket back in liquid and serve when ready.

Top off brisket sandwiches with your favorite cole slaw. I make mine with Chick Fil A’s cole slaw recipe, but I salt and vinegar to taste as I go. I also only make half the batch as it makes quite a bit.
